A Night To Remember

Church of the Immaculate Conception, Eadestown

It has to be remembered that the above Church is a very small rural church and that we experienced a night’s entertainment of a very high standard, second to none.  Thursday 22nd October 2009 was the night that Eadestown Choir launched their CD “Dona Nobis Pacem” to a packed audience of all ages.  The church was decorated with flowers and candles which added to a very fitting setting for what was in store for us.

The M.C. for the night, Michael Higgins, who indeed was most professional, introduced the first item featuring the choir with three extracts from their CD.  After which we were treated to Muireann Ni Raghallaigh’s renditions of Korcians’s “Lullaby” and Braham’s “Hungarian Dance”.  This was a wonderful performance from such a young musician.  Next we had our local tenor, Patrick Hyland, who treated us to “Panis Angelicus”, “Ave Maria” and “Bless This House”.  This young man has been blessed with a wonderful voice and the future in music for him is indeed very bright.  The children of the parish did us very proud with their rendering of two lovely pieces of song.  After this we had Matt Rafter, another local son, with his cello and Von Paradis “Sicilienne”.  Matt is indeed a very talented young man and not surprisingly has made music his career.

The concert was wound up by the Eadestown Choir with four lovely hymns, in particular “Ave Maria” by Jacob Areadelt which was another real treat.

No social in Eadestown can happen without the cup of tea, but the organisers really pushed the boat out with cheese and wine and of course plenty of homemade cakes, etc..  This helps to get the chat going.

Great credit is due to Siobhan Fay and members of the choir who dedicated so much of their time and energy to making the event such a successful evening.  May they sell thousands of CDs.  This excellent CD was recorded at Willie Headon’s recording studio at Poppyhill and his personal input and patience was very much appreciated by the choir who said he brought them to new heights.

The night was a celebration of what a good community really means, long may it last.
